the tasting menu

maggie and i went out to bistro 561 for an elaborate 6 course + dessert lunchy today… apparently to honor a chef who is trying to help kids eat better at school and fight the obesity epidemic.

really, we came to eat.

the student waiters brought out dish after tiny dish of fancy food made by student chefs from the nearby culinary school while we downed glass after glass of passion fruit iced tea. mmm. maggie and i agreed that the soup was fab… and made even better because it was served in a little espresso cup. the quail was just… quail… and the foie gras wasn’t exciting. i did like the sorbet on the mint leaves and the duck confit “tacos”.

don’t those meals usually cost an arm and a leg? were you full after? we had one of those meals one time with little platters here and there. i can’t believe we ate ostrich meat. i didn’t even know which one it was — but it one of them courses they served. my b/f had a burger before the 7 course meal (i think it was 7) and he was happy, while two of us discussed the fries that were left in our room.
