coco noche

coco nochefirst stop on our LA beach exploration excursion: coco noche in manhattan beach. we started with fizzy green tea and an appetizer platter before diving into the chocolate. odd little dumplings, potato pancakes, chicken basil and ahi on crackers…. not bad, but not too impressive. the wine and chocolate pairings were quite good– we tried indian curry/coconut, white chocolate/olive, and almond/salt along with a riesling, a sherry, and (ryan’s favorite) banfi rosa regale brachetto. we ended with funny little shroomie shaped caramels covered in chocolate– too dense for my liking. i’ll stick with the almond/salt bar that i took home with me.
1. coco noche, 2. carbonated green tea, 3. platter of goodness, 4. chocolate and wine tastings, 5. designer chocolate caramel shroomies, 6. the store
afterwards, we walked down to the pier and visited the mini aquarium.  sharks swam around in a giganto tank, some trying to jump out of the water while a lobster sat in the corner and waved his arms.  hi pinchy!
then we walked the steep hills of downtown manhattan beach, eventually stopping in at a small bakery for a chocolate cupcake and a mulan cookie.  mmm.  ryan was sugared out after that, so we decided against trying the frozen custard at lickety split.  instead, we took PCH up to venice beach… where all the freaks are.   we checked out all the strange street vendors, street performers, and tried an armenian empanada before jumping back into our car and heading off to our next destination… santa monica.
