buffalo hump, won’t cha come out tonight

Friday, November 4th, 2005 at about 8:44 am

as i was walking around old town the other day, i glanced into a store window and saw my reflection. it had a hump, my hump, my ugly un-lady lump. pair that with my moon facies and hirsuitism… makes me look like either kim the cushingoid fantastico or kim, PCOS wonder of the world. no abdominal striae, please.

on to more exciting news…

the munny show was loads of fun. maggie and i made our way down to echo park to find an obscure little brick building bumpin’ all kinds of strange pseudo-ethnic music. two giant bouncers guarded the velvet ropes outside the door– one gave me a strange look when he saw my ID, and then laughed. the other fumbled for a while with my little blue wristband. lol.

we spent some time checking out the munnies for auction– you can see them here. i loved the basketball head one and the strange green ping pong table-esqe guy. alas, my funds were limited, so we headed off to the decorating tables, munnies in hand. maggie and i ended up getting the same set of “mystery” gifts… but a boy across from our table heard my whining about my lack of cell phone and gave me his. woot woot! nice boy. i gave him my dy-no-mite. so… we painted and painted and i realized that i suck at painting… so i proceeded to dunk everything in glitter and hot-glued eyeballs all over my ice cream cone. it’s blueberry, i swear! we had only planned on staying for an hour or, so, but by the time we looked at our watches, it was 10ish and we hadn’t had dinner yet! so… we packed up our not-quite-dry toys and ran to saladang song… which had closed for the evening. boo! we ended up at cheesecake factory. mmm.

at home, i unpacked. my munny was a bit banged up, and my banana had lost some of its bling… but it was a good night.

we’ll have to do it again sometime soon.

the birthday weekend fantastico

Monday, October 31st, 2005 at about 2:58 pm

yoshi rolli ended up having a day off on friday, so i spent the day lounging around and reading about coenzyme q10 and other oddities (like MUNNY! long live MUNNY! yes, i’m obsessed).

hawaiian volcano rolldinner, however, was fabulous– ryan, annie and i went to toro, my long lost sushi love of loves. we gorged ourselves on roll after roll… mmm. who knew chino had good sushi?

at the start of the daysaturday, we went to oak glen for apple picking. we started with a strange little tour of “colonial times” and the apple picking of yore. apparently, not having showers and microwaves make colonial people cranky.

the full bagan apple pie demonstration, cider making, and apple crisp eating later, we headed to the next orchard, where we ate masses of bbq and picked masses of arkansas black apples. afterwards, we stopped at another place for fresh cider and apple tasting. fuji? good. rome? not so good.

later, while the ryan and the mom napped in the car (weaksauce!), annie and i went roaming for pumpkins… but with no luck. we had to hike thru an orchard, past a log cabin with a recipe of ho cakes posted on it, all the way to a sad little field of hay with ugly pumpkins… and came back empty handed. boo.

labor day!

Monday, September 5th, 2005 at about 11:06 pm

photobooth-family2.jpg after the great success of our “save the date” cards, i was itching to go back to the photo booths. so… i dragged the family out for dim sum and then some, and then dragged them to cue studio for some photo fun. we had a great time- dancing to the techno music, making strange faces into the camera, decorating our photos with shiny stars…

afterwards, we went to fry’s to pick up a computer for annie. then… back home for rest and sushi.

tea!

Saturday, September 3rd, 2005 at about 2:41 pm

teafood.jpgyay for “pinkies up” tea today with ryan, annie, and maggie! we went to the tea rose garden in old town and gorged ourselves on teeny tiny finger sandwiches, scones, fruit, and of course, tea.

there’s just something wonderful about having everything covered in flowers. mmmm.

see maggie’s picture here.

gorging ourselves on a hot summer’s day

Sunday, August 28th, 2005 at about 11:14 am

ryan and i jumped on the gold line and headed down to chinatown yesterday to meet up with katrina (and crew). it was… the chinese food festival of LA, a gathering of restaurants from around the area, with entertainment from random chinese youth groups, chefs, and a giant (soy sauce pushing) chicken.

after a short nap at home, we headed out to old town for dinner with maggie. after wandering down the street for a while, we decided on kabuki. mmmmm. i tried the sinus-clearing, quite painful to eat, horseradish filled tuna tartare (never again!)– a dissapointment to say the least. it looked pretty, though.

dessert was at the local Ghirardelli ice cream shop– where we stuffed our already filled bellies with an obscene banana split.

today, i’m boycotting food. we’ll stick with wedding planning and running at the gym. i don’t think my tummy can take too much more of this.

stravinsky’s petrushka

Thursday, July 28th, 2005 at about 8:21 am

on tuesday, ryan and i boarded a bus full of old people headed for the hollywood bowl. we were off to see a performance of stravinsky’s petruska and attend his lab mate’s birthday party. before the performance, we gorged ourselves on deviled eggs and other floofy foodies. when the rest of the party arrived however, we found out that the picnic food of choice was brie, bread, and red wine. mmmm. what’s more, there was cake! it was this dark, chocolatey-rasberry thing. mmmmm.

the LAPHIL was good– we especially enjoyed the crazy talented asian violinist man. the whole performance reminded me of a mix between alice in wonderland and the soundtrack to national geographic.

i want to go again. soon. if only for the food.
