polyuria and polydypsia

Monday, November 15th, 2004 at about 12:06 am

annie came over wednesday night to hang out and work on secondaries… so of course, we went out to dinner. everything was going great until…. we started talking about the giant 4ft grey mystery bunny. then all hell broke loose. i laughed so hard that i fell over and disappeared underneath the table and got up with my back and my side hurting. who knew a 4 second hallucination could bring so much joy after all these years?

we spent the next day sitting in my living room drinking tea [poor, sick annie poopy], eating jelly bellies, and studying. well, i studied. annie wrote and wrote and wrote and stopped every once in a while to read her prose.

friday night the mom, annie, ryan, and i went out for dinner and drinks. i drank about half my mojito, came home, and promptly fell asleep. to my defense, it had been a long day– i took a tortuous renal final that afternoon and wound up with a headache.

by saturday, i had managed to give away the bulk of what i had collected at the AOA convention. i mean, who needs a box full of children’s meds, allergy tabs, and calcium? i kept the chapstick and the analgesics. i’m not sure why.

this morning, the mom and i made our way to target to spend my birthday gift certificate from bac dam. i am now the owner of a bright blue, brand spankin’ new, space-savin’ brita water filter jug thing. i finally broke down and bought it so annie and could have tea by the gallon without breaking open 15 little water bottles at a time. it’ll be quite useful this weekend. fresh sashimi and tea!!!

and tonight- ryan came over again! woo hoo! i put my studies on hold while we goofed off and babbled about naming our future pug “thug”. i still think it should be Earl. or Arf. i want to see a bunch of my family members running around the backyard yelling “arf! arf! arf!”. lol.

it’s quiet again, now, though.

the party’s over

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004 at about 8:26 pm

last week was fun. wednesday, i woke up early and bought two new pairs of comfy shoes from the nordstrom’s half yearly sale. thursday, i sat through 8 gruesome hours of kidney stones, kidney removal, penile problems, and penis removal before catching a plane to sacramento. around 1030 that night, cat, steven, and i found ourselves sitting around the kitchen table at william’s house. his mom kept cutting fruit, setting out crackers, cheese, and meat, and pouring tea for us… and we kept eating. the next morning, we were greeted with more fresh fruit, muffins, orange juice, and tea. mmm. after we gorged ourselves, we headed down to the jelly belly factory for a tour and some free samples. beware of the garlic jelly bellies. afterwards, we stopped by the budweiser factory, but then ditched the tour early for food and sleeping/studying. that night, william’s mom made a huge korean feast– short ribs, spicy pork, kimchee, salad, noodles…. mmmmmm. i ate myself into a coma. and then we had cheesecake. saturday night, we found ourselves at cha cha cha, a cute little tapas bar in san francisco. we drank sangria, and filled up on some very good tapas. i ended up going back the next evening with a new group of people– more sangria, more laughs. monday, tram and katie accompanied me to the SFMOMA, where we wandered and discussed the strangeness that is modern art. quelle fun.

and somewhere during that time, i went to the medical convention.

the highlights:
- the AIDS talk by Dr. Kalousek and friends
- the fun little quizzes at the pharmy booths for prizes
- the transient quadraplegia lecture [spearing = dangerous]
- watching the doctors whine and squirm at the 6am breakfast symposium on dyslipidemia [and seeing one very large one wolf down a cholesterol-heavy breakfast at said lecture]

so… now i’m back in the IE with handfuls of free pens, post-its, and teeny tiny flash drives… cramming for my exam on friday, and realizing that i have an exam the following friday, the following monday, and the following wednesday. it’s like i’ve had my fun, and now it’s payback time. poop.

tapas = fun

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2004 at about 10:29 pm

so william, analiza, analiza’s husband, and i went out tonight to viva madrid, a cute little tapas bar in claremont. we spent the evening trying lots of little appetizer-sized foodlets, watching the news about the election, and laughing and laughing and laughing about random things. i had no idea that analiza was such a crackup. we MUST do it again sometime. it’s the civilized thing to do.

oh, and the sangria was good. too bad my water smelled like garlic.

p.s. i’m pretty sure i burned off a layer of skin on the roof of my mouth with one of those dammed potatoes. ouch.

i rocked my renal clinical exam!!! woo hoo! time to celebrate. analiza and i are making up for lost time and celebrating our birthdays today by going out for tapas. apparently the sangria at this bar is super-fab. i may have to stumble home.

i have to figure out what to pack for my trip. i’m leaving for san francisco this thursday for a medical convention. must haves: holga/film/batteries, renal notes, comfy shoes, clean undies. everything else i can worry about later.

two new birthday presents: a pretty scarf from karen, and bubble bath/soap/lotions from cat. i think she’s trying to give me a hint. oh well. perhaps i’ll stick them in my suitcase and spend the next 4 days in the tub.

and… i can’t stop singing. i think perhaps it’s because i secretly wish i was a pop superstar. hahaha. too bad i’m talented like britney spears.

for you: Black Eyed Peas - Smells like Funk
