non emergent emergencies at the ED

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 at about 4:35 am

first day as an MS4!

the day started with 7am morning report, being pimped on ER labs on a GI bleed (and succeeding!), trying not to fall asleep/ lash out violently/ make inappropriate comments as a resident went through EVERY SINGLE STEP of how to write EVERY SINGLE SECTION of a 7 page H&P (the inane questions from the new MSIIIs didn’t help.**), and a patient with a swollen arm from a supposed popped elbow pimple. what followed was…

- pediatric cardiac arrest

- scaphoid fracture

- headaches and vomiting

- pink eye

- giant ugly boils on an ugly hair butt

- strep throat

- MRSA groin abcess I&D

…and some other things i forget.

**i know, i know, i was once one of them. sort of. i might still be one of them. but really… how can they be so cocky and so slow at the same time? shut up and listen!!!! liiiiiiiiiiisten!!!! argh. if i say order a CBC, don’t also order a hematocrit and an MCV. bah! if the resident says, “make sure your intern gets the code status”, don’t say, “uhm… shouldn’t the ER just tell us?”. ASK YOUR INTERN.

le petit beaujolais

Saturday, June 24th, 2006 at about 7:30 pm

cafe beaujolaisryan and i drove out early morning breakfast down in eagle rock today. fresh cold orange juice, eggs benedict, and an avacado omlette. mmmm. strangely, every time i see poached eggs, i think of this quote:

Just as a poached egg isn’t a poached egg unless it’s been stolen from the woods in the dead of night!

Betcha don’t know where that’s from.

torte in festabeforehand, we ran down to the italian bakery on colorado to taste some cake and cookies.

mmm. we will be returning.

in the meantime, we’ll enjoy our newly purchased italian cake in a box… reminicent of the breakfasts that we had in rome and florence (breakfast in venice sucked).

join us for coffee and cake tomorrow?

restaurant 561

Friday, June 23rd, 2006 at about 12:02 am

restaurant 561it’s a happy sunny vacationy thursday, so of course, annie and i seized the opportunity to have a leisurely 7 course lunch at the nearby culinary student run restaurant. i had about 6 glasses of iced tea… which was good, i guess, since it cost about $3. it’s the asian in me. gotta get my money’s worth!

this tasting menu was okay… although not as impressive as the last one that i had. dessert was dissapointing, as was the cheese plate (which, btw, was so bad i couldn’t swallow it).  the dessert mangoish-cilantro soup was reminiscent of shampoo with a hint of sugar.

the carica (mysterious new fruit) was the highlight of the lunch– so good! i will find this fruit again…somehow… the granita was refreshing, and the ice tea, oh, the iced tea… quite good.

afterwards, annie swapped her phone down in old town, and is now happily chatting with tech support so that she can once again send pictures from her phone. good times.

1. tasting menu, 2. mmm. bread., 3. amuse bouche, 4. duck liver and orange-onion marmalade toasts, 5. butter poached spot prawns, 6. granita, 7. grilled onaga with pommes puree, 8. pan roasted duck breast, 9. roquefort grossness, 10. mango margarita

quote of the day

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 at about 6:02 pm

so i’m reading random food blogs… and i come across this entry– and i’m like, whoa, she’s writing about me!

When it comes down to it, I am a lazy, lazy girl. I hate doing housework, I like to sleep late, I can think of no better way than to spend a day than lying on the couch reading, and I haven’t had a proper job in ten years.

so… not that interesting, but i’m at home,  on day six of vacation without vacation (read: lonely and bored).  bear with me.

time for lunch.
